the island of Java, and is firmly committed to responsible
forestation.
ABOUT
LAXDALE TEAK
Laxdale
Teak is owned and advised by professional British foresters
who have spent the majority of their working lives in Pacific
Island and South East Asian countries, strengthening government
forestry services and guiding private companies towards sustainable
forest production.
ENVIRONMENTAL
INFORMATION
All the
teak used in Laxdale's furniture is sourced from plantations
on the island of Java, which has a tradition of teak planting
dating back over 200 years. Some of these plantations are
owned and managed by local communities for their own benefit,
but the majority are owned by the state-owned forestry organisation,
Perum Perhutani.
Perum
Perhutani have opened themselves up to international inspection
and currently a number of certifying agencies are working
closely with them to progressively bring their plantations
into sustainable management.
